Temples & Palermo Deluxe Air Tour

Our flights depart from Comiso airport to experience the region’s most unforgettable locations of the Sicilian Greece temples, proceeding on the amazing landscape of the Sicilian costs to Agrigento, then crossing Sicily to Corleone then Palermo, followed by the temple of Segesta, Erice and the incredible Saline of Trapani and the Selinunte temples.

Tour begins by overlooking GELA
The city was founded around 688 BC by colonists from Rhodes and Crete, 45 years after the founding of Syracuse. The city was named after the river Gela. The Greeks had many colonies in the south of what is now Italy, and for many centuries the Greeks had a major influence on the area

Tour continues to AGRIGENTO
The Valley includes remains of seven temples, all in Doric style. The ascription of the names, apart from that of the Olympeion, is a mere tradition established in Renaissance times. The temples are:

Temple of Concordia, whose name comes from a Latin inscription found nearby, and which was built in the 5th century BC..

Tour continues to CORLEONE
It is a small town and comune of approximately 12,000 inhabitants in the Province of Palermo in Sicily, Italy.

Several Mafia bosses have come from Corleone, including Salvatore Riina and Bernardo Provenzano. It is also the birthplace of several fictional characters in The Godfather, most notably Vito (Andolini) Corleone.

Tour continues to PALERMO
The city was founded in 734 BC by the Phoenicians as Ziz ('flower'). Palermo then became a possession of Carthage, before becoming part of the Roman Republic, the Roman Empire and eventually part of the Byzantine Empire, for over a thousand years.

Tour continues to SEGESTA
Segesta was one of the major cities of the Elymian people, one of the three indigenous peoples of Sicily. The belief that the name of the city was originally Acesta or Egesta and changed to Segesta by the Romans to avoid its ill-omened meaning in Latin is disproved by coins showing that Segesta was indeed the earlier name

Tour continues to ERICE
The ancient Greek name of Erice was Eryx (Έρυξ in Greek), and its foundation was associated with the eponymous Greek hero Eryx. It was not a Greek colony, as the Phoenicians founded it, but was largely Hellenized. It was destroyed in the First Punic War by the Carthaginians, and from then on declined in importance..

Tour continues to TRAPANI
It was founded by the Elymians to serve as the port of the nearby city of Erice (ancient Eryx), which overlooks it from Monte San Giuliano. The city sits on a low-lying promontory jutting out into the Mediterranean Sea.

It was originally named Drepana or Drépanon from the Greek word for "sickle", because of the curving shape of its harbour

Tour continues to SELINUNTE
It was one of the most important of the Greek colonies in Sicily, situated on the southwest coast of that island, at the mouth of the small river of the same name, and 6.5 km west of the Hypsas river (the modern Belice).
It was founded, according to the historian Thucydides, by a colony from the Sicilian city of Megara Hyblaea, under the leadership of a man called Pammilus, about 100 years after the foundation of Megara Hyblaea, with the help of colonists from Megara in Greece, which was Megara Hyblaea's mother city.
